We were recently asked to be one of the sponsors for a very different type of event, a Vintage Tea Party and Doggy Pageant.  As we knew the organisers, we immediately agreed and sponsored the Most Handsome Hound category.

The two local ladies who organised it, Julia Jepps, owner of Gazehound Vintage and Maryanne Pretryszyn, owner of Jam and Tea, a successful vintage styling and catering business, joined forces to arrange this unique fundraising event for hounds and humans!

All event profits were donated to Horsham-based Arundawn Dog Rescue run by Elaine Barter. It takes in abandoned and abused dogs often requiring costly vet’s treatment due to neglect and cruelty. After a lot of TLC and careful assessment, the dogs are found loving homes. The running costs are high and all met by donations and fundraising by volunteers.

Doggy Pageant

Set up at Copsale Village Hall, this was the perfect spot for The Party and doggy frolics. There were eight classes sponsored by supportive local businesses including ourselves, The Pets, Homes and Gardens Company.

Dogs were also able to try a supervised novices’ agility course; try their luck at the Tennis Ball Tombola; and have wacky photos in the photo booth. A slap-up traditional tea was the highlight of the afternoon. Sandwiches bursting with tasty vegetarian fillings, several types of scones and a variety of luscious cakes served for humans; doggy sandwiches, cheesy biscuits and pupcakes which kept all the dogs happy.

Even our own dogs entered the Show with our 10 year old Lucy winning third price in the Best Veteran Category. A great time was had by everyone, despite some rain – typical British weather – but it was a case of keep calm and carry on!
